Let the sun shine

Spring is here...YAAAAAAAAAAAY!

Photos from weheartit.

The weekend

So, the rumours were true, summer did arrive early in Queensland this year. Stu and I lazed in the sun, swam lots and lots, walked down the beach and bought king prawns straight off a trawler! We also very seriously contemplated a seachange for good (maybe in a few years?). So wonderful, it made coming home really hard.

Did you have a great weekend too?

Off for some work and play

In a few hours time, I will be here!Work is sending me up to Sanctuary Cove, Queensland for a couple of days and then Stu will join me on the weekend for some sun. Rumour has it that summer has already arrived there so I've happily packed my swimmers. Fingers crossed they'll get worn!

Have a wonderful rest of the week...see you again soon.

Cute as a button

Why are buttons so darn cute?Since I discovered The Button Shop a few weeks ago, I have been obssessed with buttons. I feel like a kid in a candy shop everytime I'm there, bedazzled by the rows and rows of buttons that line its walls. So far I've replaced the buttons on 3 cardigans, plus I'm working on some button jewellery and some button cards. Wanna see? I'll show when they're all ready, I promise.

What's your current obssession?

A taste of home

I woke up on Saturday morning with sudden pangs of homesickness; Stu felt sorry for me so we cooked and ate Singapore style all day.
For brunch: roti pratha eaten with fish curry and soft boiled egg topped with dark soy and a dash of white pepper.
For dinner: Hainanese chicken rice, served with cucumber and tomatoes, accompanied by dark soy, pounded ginger and chilli sauce.

Not quite the same as being in Singapore, but it'll do for now.

How do you cope with homesickness?

Happy Fives - 21 August 09

  • I had a sinful but yummy bacon and egg roll for breakfast this morning.
  • I finished all my marking last night so my weekend officially begins TODAY!
  • I replaced all the plastic buttons with lovely pearl ones on my new cardigan and it looks fantastic.
  • It's cardigan weather today.
  • I was told about a delicious new secret and I'm not telling what it is...ssh.

Have a happy weekend!

My very own piece of tulle

Remember how I badly wanted to wear tulle? My lovely sister in law found out about it and decided to make me my very own tulle skirt. And she made not 1, but 2...YAY for me!

A few tidbits about my sister-in-law; she's extremely crafty (and I only mean that in the good creative sense). Sometime last year, I sent her a mini Cath Kidson soap. I recently found out she'd saved the wrapper and turned it into jewellery! Pretty amazing huh?
She doesn't actually know this; but she's the one who inspired me to craft and start my own blog. Be sure to check out her blog and her Etsy store.

A girl and her pooch

Sometimes all a girl wants is a cuddly dog. I grew up with animals around me, so it's litte surprise I am always pinning for a little dog to cuddle and play with. Everytime I ask Stu for one, he gently reminds me that apartment living and pooches don't go hand in hand and that someday, hopefully soon, when we buy a house, I can have a dog of my own.

A few things...

First up, congrats to Simply Colette, you are the lucky winner of the glitter globe giveaway! Please email your address to littledressdesigns@yahoo.com.au and it'll soon be on its way to you.

Next, it's awards time! Thanks Abby from Abby's in Trouble again for the Honest Scrap Award, you're so very sweet and lovely. Here are the rules:

* “The Honest Scrap” award is not one to hold all to your self but it must be shared!* The recipient has to tell 10 true things about themselves in their blog that no one else knows.* The recipient has to pass along this prestigious award to 10 more bloggers.* Those 10 bloggers all have to be notified they have been given this award.* Those 10 bloggers should link back to the blog that awarded them.

10 true things about myself:
  1. When I was a little girl, I refused to wear boy colours like blue or green, black or brown, so I was always dressed in pink, purple, red and the occasional yellow.
  2. I used to be on the table tennis school team.
  3. I used to be very musical; I played the violin and the piano and was even qualified to teach the piano.
  4. Sadly though, lack of practice for the last 9 years has left me rusty and ashamed of my musical "talents".
  5. I plan to get Lasik done by end year or early next year.
  6. I think a lot about how I'd spend my millions when I win the lotto.
  7. I am afraid of loud young people (I see this as proof that I am getting old).
  8. I want to take up pottery, but haven't found time for it.
  9. I haven't exercised for nearly 2 months! I blame the cold weather for my lack of motivation.
  10. I came very very close to getting a tattoo 3 years ago. I am glad I didn't.

Now, I would like to pass the award to:

Wish it's yesterday still

Summer made a surprise visit to Sydney yesterday, 28 degrees celsius on a winter's day (unheard of!). Stu and I sat by the river, lazed in the sun, fed the ducks, watched the clouds pass by and I learnt to fly fish for the very first time. It was one of those blissful days that made the thought of Monday and work especially appalling; I really wish it's yesterday still.

What did you do on the weekend?

All wrapped up

I really wouldn't mind getting all wrapped up in these beautiful silk and cashmere pashminas by Candice Wren. There's the sweet and the pretty, the cute and the yummy, plus Candice Wren is a bespoke pashmina label, so you can even request your own customised design. Oh, how do I choose?

Be sure to check out the rest of her designs!

Love you x 5000

On the 8th of the 8th, 2 years ago, Stu and I went on our very first date. I remember it as if it was only yesterday. It was the perfect winter's day, cool temperatures, light breeze and a very warm beautiful sun. We met at the city and took a ferry across to Manly beach where we had lunch and sat at the waters talking (for hours!). Both of us knew something special was going on.

So, tomorrow will be a very special day for us, and I made something for Stu. Ok, this is may be a bit strange and perhaps hard to understand, so please bear with me. See this image of the hearts bearing the words "Love you"?With the help of a good mate and an electron microscope, this image is actually milled onto a tiny dot situated on this little teddy bear. I strategically placed it on the left hand side, where its heart should be. So what you see in the frame is really a magnification of 5000 times the actual design. Pretty amazing huh? Of course, my love so Stu far exceeds 5000 times, and it's something no machine can ever show. I just hope that he'll like it.

Mystery play - The little black dress

Using the iconic Coca-Cola bottle silhouette as inspiration, ten top designers from Australia and around the world have come together to create some really beautiful (and wearable!) LBDs. These are my favourite:

Something magical

I fell in love with these these beautiful prints from photovalle the minute I saw them, there is definitely something magical about them. Maybe it's the way light is captured, maybe it's their simplicity, in any case, I'm smitten.
